Restore Affordable Water is a registered 501(c)(4) advocacy organization. We are a group of residents, business owners, and community leaders who are advocating for clean and affordable water for the benefit of all Montgomery County.
In Montgomery County, water rates are impacted by decisions of the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District (LSGCD). Mismanagement has led to a nearly two-fold increase in water rates in recent years.
In the past LSGCD board was appointed, but during the 85th Legislature Sen. Brandon Creighton and Rep. Will Metcalf filed HB 1982 to hold these unelected LSGCD bureaucrats accountable.
Sen. Creighton and Rep. Metcalf led the effort and filed legislation, that was passed into law, on behalf of Montgomery County residents who were tired of out-of-control water rates. In May 2017, Gov. Greg Abbott signed HB 1982 into law, giving Montgomery County residents the ability to elect their own representatives to the LSGCD board.
The 85th Legislature was forced to act due to the LSGCD’s mismanagement and for the first time in Montgomery County history, the LSGCD board is being changed from being comprised of unaccountable appointed positions to positions elected by the voters of Montgomery County on the November 6th, 2018 ballot. Finally, the voters of Montgomery County will have a say in their water rates and the officials who control them.
